Nellie Joggers + Shorts Sewalong
Nellie Joggers + Shorts: Style Inspiration
I feel like joggers are the unassuming cousin of jeans. They come across all casual and utilitarian, but with a little creativity, they can be elevated into so many different outfit looks!
Nellie Joggers + Shorts: Sizing, Muslins, and Common Fit Adjustments for Pants Sewing
Making a pair of custom fit pants is a rite of passage when it comes to sewing your own wardrobe. It feels really daunting at first (especially when you throw in a fly front!). But once you figure out what fitting adjustments work for your body, you'll be set.
Nellie Joggers + Shorts Sewalong, Part 1: Apply Interfacing and Prepare the Pockets
We'll start the Nellie Joggers construction by preparing some of the smaller pattern pieces. Doing these first, instead of as we get to them, will save us some time and keep us trucking along once we get into the flow of making the pants.
Nellie Joggers + Shorts Sewalong, Part 2: Installing a Zipper Fly
Align the Front Legs right sides together. Baste the fly extension portion, starting at the waistband notch and stopping at the point where the fly extension meets the crotch curve (a reference dot marks this location on the pattern).
Nellie Joggers + Shorts Sewalong, Part 3: Waistband Facings
Use a seam ripper to carefully open the basted fly seam, revealing the finished fly assembly underneath.
Nellie Joggers + Shorts Sewalong, Part 4: Install elastic at back waist
Cut a length of 2" (5 cm) wide elastic as specified in the elastic requirements chart for your size on page 2. Fold the elastic in half and mark the center.
Nellie Joggers + Shorts Sewalong, Part 5: Finishing touches
Fold the hem by 5/8" (1.5 cm) and press. Then fold the hem again by 2 ¼" (~6 cm) and press again. Topstitch the hem in place to create a casing for the hem elastic, but leave about 2" to 3" (5 to 8 cm) open for inserting the elastic. Repeat on the other leg opening.
